Ann goes to Crufts March 8-11, 2007
Hi, I had a very good trip. No problems and good weather. Much warmer than here at home. I took the Airtrain both coming and going so no one had to drive me. The flight was direct to Birmingham, and both coming and going I had a delightful person to sit with, with an empty space between us (The only empty space on the plane I might add). I left at 7:30 PM and arrived in the morning. The Arden Hotel was within walking distance of the airport and Crufts, though I took a taxi on the morning I arrived. Kim met me there later that day. She had been with her Australian Cavalier breeder friend visiting in northern England. We had a good breakfast included with our room and managed to eat lightly the rest of the time. Prices were very high. Kim and I took an all day tour of the Cottswold area and Stratford, and otherwise were at the show. I took advantage of the weight room at the Hotel to get a little exercise too.
I found the trip very refreshing and am glad to get home at back to the dogs and everything.
As far as the dogs, I was disappointed with the English Goldens. Although I like their heads OK, their general soundness left much to be desired. They looked like a different breed to me. It was hard for me to see how one could incorporate what they have to offer into our dogs. It was interesting to see the lack of professional showmanship in the ring. I wished for Audra and Hank or Nate in the ring just to show them a real Golden. I think the Brits would be amazed. On the other hand the Cavaliers were excellent.
There were lots of Americans there and on the plane. A number that I knew. Everyone was very friendly. I was glad I went.
Here is a picture I took while at the shows. These dogs took Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex.
